Tom Law, a senior writer for Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, will receive an Eclipse Award for his coverage of the 2022 Preakness Stakes in the magazine's July edition. Law’s story about Early Voting’s win in the second jewel of the Triple Crown was recognized in the News/Enterprise category of the annual media Eclipse Awards contest overseen by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form and National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. It was the second consecutive Eclipse for the magazine, following a feature by Sandra McKee in 2021.
August 26, 2022, Annville, PA. - Brody’s Cause, one of only two horses to win both of Keeneland’s top races for 2- and 3-year-olds on dirt since Round Table in 1957, has been acquired by Rodney Eckenrode to stand at Equistar Training and Breeding in Annville, Pa., in 2023. A multiple Grade 1 winner and Grade 1 sire, Brody’s Cause will stand for $3,500.

Sandra McKee, a contributing writer to Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred for the past eight years after a 36-year career as a sportswriter for the Baltimore Evening Sun and Baltimore Sun, will be honored next month with an Eclipse Award for her story “A Jockey’s Life” that appeared in the June 2021 edition of Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred.
Knicks Go and Beren both posted recent victories to remain atop the latest Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred/The Racing Biz Top Midlantic-bred Poll. As was the case in July, Beren leads the poll of region-bred three-year-olds, while Knicks Go leads among older horses.
